In Home Euthanasia

clouds.jpgThe decision to end your pet's suffering is one of the toughest you'll ever have to face.  We want to help make this difficult time easier for both you and your pet.

It is a very personal decision whether to schedule an in-home or in-hospital euthanasia.  Many pets are comfortable at the hospital, however, choosing in-home euthanasia may allow you and your pet to feel more relaxed and at peace.  Please contact us (616-942-8147) and we can help you decide whether in-hospital or in-home euthanasia would be best for your situation.   In-home euthanasias often do require more advanced notice and longer scheduling time.

You may choose whether you would like to be present with your pet during the euthanasia, or not.  Again, this is a very personal decision and there is a different "right" answer for each and every person.  Please don't be shy about asking any questions or stating any concerns.  We are here to help you in whatever way we can.  Should you choose to be present, we will place an intravenous catheter prior to the procedure.  The doctor will discuss the entire procedure with you step by step while the veterinary assistants are placing the catheter.  The "IV" will allow you to hold, comfort and be close to your pet while the doctor administers the anesthetic.

You may choose to take care of your pet's remains yourself, or Safe Harbor can coordinate cremation or burial for you.

Euthanasia is truly a special gift we are blessed to be able to give our innocent friends.  It is the most courageous choice you can make for your pet when their suffering can no longer be eased.  We are here to help make this time as peaceful as possible for you and your loved one.

Safe Harbor would like to honor your loved one on our Pet Memorials page.
